Junior Orcas Learn-to-Swim Program

The Junior Orca program is a series of small-group swim lessons for children ages 4–9, led by Terra Linda Orca coaches and experienced high school swimmers. The program is open to the public and typically runs from mid-April through the last week of June.

Classes are offered in one-week increments, with two 30-minute sessions per week. Session times are 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Program length and scheduling may vary slightly from year to year based on facility availability and staffing.

Who Is Junior Orcas For?

Junior Orcas is designed primarily for swimmers who are still building the ability and confidence to swim across the pool unassisted. We welcome swimmers of varying experience levels, but the focus is on developing water comfort, foundational stroke skills, and lap-swimming readiness.

Pathway to the Terra Linda Orcas Swim Team

Swimmers who can swim 25 yards unassisted, or who demonstrate sufficient stroke proficiency and water confidence, may be ready for the main Terra Linda Orcas swim team.

The team season runs from late February through June, with competitions beginning in late April. Because early-season training builds the foundation for competition, swimmers who join later in the season may have less preparation time.

New Swimmer Week is held once per year at the end of February. During this week, coaches assess swimmers to determine readiness for the team. Outside of New Swimmer Week, coach assessments may be arranged based on availability.

Final placement is determined by coach assessment.

Registration & Assessment Information

All swimmers must be registered in order to enter the pool.

If your child would like to try out for the main team, please complete registration so we have the required waivers on file. If coaches determine that your swimmer is not quite ready for the team, their registration may be applied toward Junior Orcas, and any difference in fees will be refunded.
